This is a fairly short post about a repair I did a long time ago. My brother used to own a Wii U and I wanted to play Pikmin 2 but misfortunately the screen on the gamepad got broken. I decided to do something wild: replace the screen myself, even though I have never done such a repair before. There were a lot of issues: I didn’t have the Y-screws used by Nintendo and I had to detatch the screen, which was glued to the plastic frame. But luckily the hardware store had the right screws and I could separate the screen and the frame by heating them up with a fan.
I swapped the screens and reassembled the gamepad by the end of the evening - and et voila! Everything worked and I managed to play Pikmin 2. Retrospectively this wasn’t a big undertaking, but it game me confidence in the future to try and repair more things myself.
